The purpose of the City of Chandler’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program is to increase the preparedness level of the residents of Chandler for emergencies or disaster. The cornerstone of the program is education and preparedness.

The program is open to all citizens and accommodates variable degrees of participation within the program. The levels of commitment are based on a type classification system of qualification, training, security clearance, and emergency preparedness availability at the local, neighborhood, city, state or national level.

There are 6 levels of participation and qualification that align with the Federal Emergency Management Association’s (FEMA) organizational guidelines on Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Response, also coordinated and adopted by the State of Arizona, the Central Arizona’s Citizen’s Corps Council, and all CERT programs within this region beginning in 2007.
